Independent ad-blocking & privacy guides

Choose an ad blocker that fits how you actually browse.

AdBlock Atlas explains where browser blockers, VPN-integrated blocking, and privacy bundles differ—then shows who each approach makes sense for.

No fabricated lab scores. No pretending we personally tested something we only researched. Current product claims are linked to sources.

Start with the decision

Three questions narrow the field quickly.

Do you want a VPN too?

If yes, a bundled option such as Surfshark CleanWeb can be easier to justify than paying for separate privacy tools.

See the ad blocker + VPN guide →

Do you need deep filter control?

Dedicated blockers such as uBlock Origin-family tools and AdGuard focus more heavily on filtering controls than a simple privacy bundle does.

Where do you want blocking?

Browser extension and VPN-app blocking are not the same. CleanWeb’s extension has browser-specific controls, while the app path works when connected to Surfshark VPN.

Current focus

Surfshark CleanWeb, without the sales fog.

CleanWeb is Surfshark’s ad- and tracker-blocking feature. It is included in Surfshark subscriptions, but its capabilities depend on whether you use the VPN app or browser extension.

According to Surfshark’s current documentation, the VPN-app version blocks ads, trackers, and malware while connected to the VPN. The browser-extension version can work without an active VPN connection and adds web-ad, video-ad, tracker, cookie-pop-up, and malware blocking features.
